Yan Liu obtained his B.S. and M.E. from Wuhan University, China, and M.CS from the University of Iowa. He is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Iowa. Yan’s primary research interest is high-performance optimization. In CIGI, he’s interested in solving large-scale geospatial optimization problems using a scalable approach that is able to harness massive computational cyberinfrastructure resources. He is the technical coordinator of the GISolve project (http://www.gisolve.org) - the TeraGrid GIScience Gateway which provides a leading GIS solution on cyberinfrastructure. He is also a TeraGrid (http://www.teragrid.org) staff in the Science Gateway directorate.
Yan loves sports. He plays soccer, badminton, ping-pong, freesbie, and basketball. When he has vacation time, he likes to bring his Canon 300D digital camera and travel with his family to national and state parks.
